HEAT SAVING TIPS TO STAY WARM IN WINTER
Although Florida is typically a warm and sunny tropical paradise, it can still get a bit chilly in the winter months, especially in northern cities like Tallahassee or Jacksonville. We Floridians spend enough money trying to keep our homes cool for ten months out of the year, that the winter should serve as a kind of break for us in terms of our electricity or gas bills. That’s not always the case though, and our heating systems must be put to use.
If you do have to heat your home this winter, keep in mind these five helpful heating tips so that you can still give your utility bills a rest this winter season:
- Let the sun heat your home. Fortunately, even when Florida gets cold it usually remains sunny. Opening your blinds and letting the sun in through your windows can drastically heat your home naturally, making it brighter and more welcoming at the same time.
- Place carpeting and rugs on bare floors. Wooden and tile floors have trouble retaining heat and can make a house feel colder than it really is. Strategically placed carpeting or area rugs can instantly add another layer of insulation and warmth to your home.
- Avoid the use of portable space heaters. Although space heaters can be great for limited areas or for getting warm fast, they are not very cost-effective. Space heaters are quite costly to run and inefficient for heating larger areas, so they only offer a temporary solution to a recurring problem.
